| Designing
web pages to work across a number of platforms and web browsers,
all of which present HTML and CSS code slightly differently, can
be quite a challenge. Below we set out some of the criteria we
have used in designing this site, in the hope that it will enable
you to optimise your system and get the most from your visit.
BROWSERS:
We have optimised this site for Version 6 browsers, but we have
restricted certain features so that most pages would be compatible
with earlier browser versions. If you would like to upgrade
your browser, select the appropriate link below to download
the latest version. DOWNLOAD TIMES:
Download time can vary, depending on the quality of your link
and the volume of traffic at the time. If picture content is
slowing your download and you could manage without pictures
then you might turn off 'images' in the web content section
of your 'preferences'. Browsers do vary a little in their procedures,
so if you're unsure, consult your user's guide or online Help. SCREEN DISPLAY:
We have chosen to use a screen size of 600x800 pixels. You should
find acceptable results using a smaller display size, 640x480,
although some extra scroll-bars may appear. You could help
this situation by maximising your web browser window and closing
all menu and button bars you don't require. Reducing your browser's
default font size would also help (found under 'preferences'
on most browsers). ACESSIBILITY:
For information on how we have tried to make this web site more
accessible to all our visitors please review the accessibility
page here. PLUG-INS:
We have kept the use of third-party plug-ins to a minimum and
we have endeavoured to use only plug-ins commonly shipped with
popular browsers. Below are the plug-ins we recommend you install,
to access special content on this site.
